In 1985, Rev. Peter Chin of the Chinese Evangelical Church of Portland started a Bible study fellowship for the Chinese families residing in the Vancouver area. The goal was to enable them to grow in Biblical truth. In a short period of time, the number of members increased so much that the space in family homes was no longer able to accommodate the meetings. They decided to borrow one of the Cascade Park Baptist church classrooms for their place of Friday night Bible study. The initial seven founding families saw the Lord continuously increasing the membership to the Bible study fellowship. They sought to the Lord in prayers by faith for direction in establishing a Chinese church as their vision and mission.

For years, they experienced that the Lord was with them, so, in 1990, they boldly started a Monthly Worship service on Saturday morning in addition to the Friday night Bible study. Praise the Lord, in September 1, 1991, the Chinese Evangelical Church of Vancouver was formally established and started the Sunday Worship service at an elementary school. At that time, Rev. Isaac Chu was assuming the position of pastor.

In the same year, God touched a family to donate a piece of land for the site of the church building. Through God’s abundant provision and kindly guidance, the first phase of the church building was completed in the summer of 1995. Though the building was small, it was big enough for Worship service and Children’s Sunday school classrooms. As the membership increased, there was a need to expand the facility. By the end of August, 2002, the new expansion was completed. For God has blessed this church not only in the increase in membership and the larger facilities, but also in the quality of Biblical teaching and equipping for the saints. Currently, we have a Sanctuary that is capable of seating 280, a dual purpose chapel and fellowship hall with 75 seats, 11 classrooms and two offices. We pray that God will continue to use this church to carry out His Great Commission.

May the name of Lord Jesus Christ will be glorified, and the brothers and sisters in this church will be edified. We pray for Lord’s guidance and use the CECV as a bright shining lamp that stands for spreading the gospel, until He comes again.
